Flavia Borges is an Afro-Brazilian-American screenwriter bringing forth Afro-centered narratives rooted in intergenerational healing and restoration. She co-wrote the four-episode docuseries “Sound of The River” (YouTube Originals), created and starred by Latin Grammy nominee Maria Gadú. In 2021-22 she served as Jr. Development Executive at Maria Farinha Films, a leading Latin America production company committed to environmental and social impact entertainment. A graduate of University of Central Florida, Flavia majored in Advertising and Public Relations. As a bilingual screenwriter, her commitment rests in cultivating discourse among the African Diaspora and inspiring collective ancestral remembrance. She is the trailblazing co-creator of MENACE, a 2018 Webby Awards Honoree and the first feminist web series made for Instagram. Flavia has written short series, television pilots and feature-length scripts, in both narrative and documentary format.
An innovator first, she co-created a methodology designed in partnership with distributer Flow Impact and professionals across various cultures and ethnicities to help dismantle narrative tropes and stereotypes at various points of the development and production phases.
In 2021 she founded Return & Retreat, a unique wellness gathering for Black women centered around water. The retreat took place in Chicago (2021) and Salvador, Brazil (2023), offering a luxurious opportunity for Black women to practice self-healing while engaging two abundant resources. Water and mindfulness. An experience that much like a single drop of water, causes a ripple effect.
